Assessment Essentials Series Online Courses

Following the recent updates to assessment policies communicated by the Office of the Provost, the Centre for Education Innovation is here to support you. We are now offering three online self-paced courses designed to assist you in effectively implementing these changes:

ASD-001 | Rubrics as an Assessment Tool in Higher Education
This course will guide you on how to create and utilize rubrics to enhance clarity and consistency in your assessments.
At the end of the course, you will be able to:
- develop assessment rubrics aligned with learning objectives
- evaluate student work accurately using rubrics
- use rubrics to provide constructive feedback to students

ASD-002 | Criterion-Referenced Assessment: A Practical Guide
This course offers practical insights on adopting criterion-referenced assessment (CRA) in your courses, ensuring transparency and alignment with learning outcomes.
At the end of the course, you will be able to:
- identify ILOs and select aligned assessment methods
- create clear criteria for evaluating performance
- communicate grading criteria for fair assessments
- provide feedback to support student development

LMS-002 | Canvas Assessment and Feedback
This course offers fundamental skills for effectively use Canvas for assessment and feedback, including the timely release of marks and feedback as required by the new policies.
At the end of the course, you will be able to:
- create and set up different types of assessments
- develop grading rubrics for effective evaluation
- utilize various options to grade assignments and provide valuable feedback
- manage the release of assignments and course grades to students
The Assessment Essentials Series is part of the Academy of Education Excellence (AEE) program and is offered online in a self-paced format. Once you enroll, you will gain access to the course site and all learning materials. Upon completing a course, a badge will be issued by the AEE to acknowledge your achievement.
