Do you wonder whether your students, when turning in AI-polished assignments, might be bypassing the struggle of learning? As AI tools reshape students’ learning experiences at university, metacognition – the ability to think about one’s own thinking – is becoming a critical capacity when using AI to avoid cognitive offloading and ensure deep learning.

Join us for this interactive workshop to explore practical strategies that can empower students not just to learn effectively when using AI, but also to understand how they learn. Together, we’ll unpack the mechanics of metacognition and consider ways to model and integrate metacognitive skill development into your teaching practice.

By the end of the workshop, you’ll be able to:

  • define the concept and components of metacognition
  • discuss the importance of developing students’ metacognitive skills for learning in the AI era
  • apply simple strategies to promote student metacognition in teaching and learning activities and assessments
  • reflect on ways to incorporate metacognitive strategies into your teaching practice
