Putting Neuroscience in the Classroom

Project Leader: Nicolson SIU, Michelle YIK
School: School of Humanities & Social Science
Department: Social Science (SOSC)
Funding Year: 2023/24
Description:

Neuroscience encompasses complex ideas such as neural networks, synaptic plasticity, and cognitive processes, which can be challenging for learners. This project subsequently aims to leverage the engaging and interactive nature of games to optimize cognitive training and foster active learning in select courses (SOSC1960, SOSC1969, SOSC2240, SOCS2250). Using both VR and gamification methods, this project seeks to foster greater learner engagement and knowledge retention. Deliverables of this project include a minimum of 4 innovative VR learning modules tailored to illustrating complex neuroscience concepts and a game-based learning platform including at least 4 sets of scenarios that test students’ ability to apply knowledge in everyday life.
