Online interactive mechanical design playground and gallery

Project Leader: Molong DUAN
School: School of Engineering
Department: Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE)
Project Start Year: 2021/22
Description:

This project aims to establish an online game platform for the students to share, learn, evaluate, and recycle mechanical designs. The designs arise from classical designs delivered in lectures, important designs in local and global histories, active mechanical part suppliers, and the design projects of previous students. By establishing this platform and formulating related teaching activities, the students are expected to master the design concepts, available tools, and engineering state-of-the-art in a more straightforward and enjoyable way. The platform also provides the students an online virtual space for interaction, which is essential in fostering in-class collaboration and establishing an inclusive learning atmosphere. Furthermore, hosting events on this platform, such as a virtual design competition and shows, provides a perfect opportunity to gather the students with instructors, industrial recruiters, alumni, and student family members. Therefore, the platform and related activities further promote engineering education to the general public. The deliverable of this project is an online gaming platform that
(i) showcases classical mechanical designs and student designs,
(ii) allows users to examine the mechanical designs in different levels of detail, and
(iii) allows multiple users to log in, interact, discuss, and play games in real-time.
