Fellowship Scheme

The AEE Fellowship Scheme recognizes effective teaching, continued professional development, and contributions to teaching and learning at HKUST.

The scheme is open to full-time UST faculty members with teaching and learning responsibilities. Applicants should normally hold a University contract that extends through or beyond the three-year Fellowship period.

Applicants may apply for Junior Fellow, Fellow, or Senior Fellow according to the breadth, maturity, and reach of their current practice. Applications are assessed across all six AEE Dimensions of Teaching Excellence.

What level of recognition is right for me?

Junior Fellow

For applicants demonstrating developing teaching excellence through effective practice, professional learning, and evidence of improvement within their own teaching context.

Fellow

For applicants demonstrating sustained effective practice, evidence of impact, and contributions extending beyond their own classes or courses.

Senior Fellow

For applicants demonstrating sustained teaching excellence together with leadership, mentoring, or influence on the practice of colleagues, programs, Schools/Academy, or the University.

Note: Fellowship levels are not determined by job title, years of service, SFQ results, teaching awards, or participation in professional development alone. Applicants should select the level that reflects what they can evidence at the time of application.

The figures indicate the minimum number of descriptors applicants must demonstrate within each dimension.

How applications are reviewed?

The AEE team checks each submission for eligibility and completeness.
Two AEE Senior Fellows review the application independently against the required descriptors.
Moderation takes place where reviewers’ judgments differ or further consideration is required.
The two reviewers agree the final outcome, and the AEE team communicates it in writing.

Reviewers consider the application holistically, including the effectiveness of the applicant’s practice, evidence of impact, critical reflection, continued development, and the breadth or influence expected at the Fellowship level claimed.

Fellowship period, renewal and advancement

AEE Fellowship is awarded for three years. Fellows must apply for renewal before the end of their term by providing evidence of continued teaching excellence across all six dimensions.

At renewal, Fellows may apply to retain their current title or seek advancement to a higher Fellowship level. Advancement is considered only at the three-year renewal point and requires evidence meeting the full requirements of the higher level.

Applicants should select evidence for its relevance and quality rather than volume.

Q: Are micro-credentials required?

A: No. AEE micro-credentials and other professional-development activities may support an applicant’s continued development, but they are not mandatory requirements for Fellowship.
