Overview:

We all know that we learn from doing. Yet all educators know that we learn even more when we ‘think’ about what we are doing. In this session, the presenter has walked through an innovative pedagogical framework that has been developed and tested over the past 8 years, called “Staying F.O.C.U.S.E.D.” with the participants and how it helps in engaging students to open up alternatives to better deal with unsolved problems, issues and challenges.  Attendees also had hands-on opportunity to see how it might be applied to your own individual teaching (research and/or administrative) contexts, regardless of your disciplinary field.

Speakers:

Dr Robert Wright has been a university level educator for the past 30 years. He is a multi-award winning teacher and researcher. His research on “How useful are the strategic tools we teach in business schools?” was awarded Best Paper of the Year (in 2014) for the Journal of Management Studies, and in 2016 received the Emerald Citation of Excellence Award for high impact research. He is also the Principal Investigator for a recently awarded $9.7M UGC-funded teaching and learning project centred on the “Staying F.O.C.U.S.E.D.” framework.
