Immersive and interactive 3D virtual site visits for civil engineering courses

Immersive and interactive 3D virtual site visits for civil engineering courses

Project Leader: Thomas HU
School: School of Engineering
Department: Civil and Environmental Engineering (CIVL)
Project Start Year: 2020/21
Description:

The project will produce a series of 360° VR videos complete with further animations that enable vivid visualization, reinforced understanding and application of essential concepts in civil engineering education, thereby removing the aforementioned learning barriers. Through them, lectures and textbook problems will be authentically linked to real-life issues. The videos--combined with simulated case scenarios--will provide realistic virtual field trips/labs that help students apply classroom knowledge and develop problem-solving skills under real-life settings and constraints. Hence, students will enjoy an enhanced learning experience by experimenting with different engineering designs, discovering potential difficulties and errors in field work, and realizing accuracy limitations, etc.
