New Faculty Orientation

Body

Faculty Orientation is an introductory program for all teaching staff who have recently joined HKUST. It is offered twice a year in August and January and specifically designed to take account of some key aspects of teaching and learning in the context of HKUST.

MOOC

Body
As part of our internationalization strategy to reach out globally to students, the establishment of partnerships with two leading MOOC providers, Coursera and edX, to produce MOOCs has complemented this effort. These partnerships began with Coursera in late 2012 – HKUST being the first such partner in Asia – and then with edX shortly after.

Experiential Learning

Body
The Center of Education and Innovation is committed to supporting the use of experiential learning at The University of Hong Kong Science and Technology. Experiential learning is a natural and powerful learning tool that helps foster problem-solving, critical thinking, and growth. Watch the video below to understand how this is a natural learning process that each of us has utilized from a young age.

Augmented and Virtual Reality

Body
Virtual Reality (VR) is a fully computer-generated environment that gives you an immersive, sensational and interactive experience of being there, usually enabled by head-mounted headsets, such as the Facebook-owned Oculus headsets. One of the uses of VR in higher education is to create a safe virtual environment for students to practice and receive feedback on their presentation, communication and interview skills. Augmented reality (AR) is used to enhance the natural environments and offer perceptually enriched experiences through the use of a camera-equipped device like our phones. In some medical schools, for example, this technology is used to virtually guide surgical students to perform rare operational procedures, and study the blood flow through the heart, arteries and veins in a digital body.
