The AEE hosts a variety of events and workshops aimed at enhancing and promoting exemplary teaching methods, assessing policies and initiatives, and fostering innovation and collaboration in higher education.

Among the activities coordinated by the AEE are workshops, collaborative workgroups, and targeted initiatives, which include but are not limited to the following:

AEE Colloquium 2026: Opening Doors, Closing Gaps

The AEE Colloquium 2026 was successfully held on 8 May 2026. Bringing together members of the AEE community, the event provided a shared platform for exchange, reflection and collaboration. The Colloquium featured a series of Teaching and Learning showcases alongside the World Café – Crossing the Gaps, Sharing the Keys, a facilitated dialogue session that invited participants to engage in small‑group discussions and collectively reflect on challenges and opportunities in teaching practice. These interactive components fostered thoughtful exchange on pedagogical innovation, educational accessibility and community‑engaged learning. Through the active participation and insights of presenters and attendees, the AEE Colloquium created a constructive environment for teaching innovation, reflecting a shared commitment to advancing inclusive and effective teaching and learning across the University.

Second Intake of Academy of Education Excellence (AEE) Fellows

It gives us great pleasure to announce the appointment of 12 new AEE Fellows in recognition of teaching excellence at HKUST. These new members join the pool of existing AEE Fellows in a community of excellence in teaching, forming a community of excellence in teaching. The review committee commends the new Fellows for their commitment to advancing effective teaching practices.

AEE Fellowships are granted for a three-year period. Throughout their term, Fellows are expected to demonstrate an ongoing commitment to teaching excellence, ensuring pedagogical innovation and continuous professional development remain central to their work. Through the AEE, fellows contribute to a community of practice among teachers at HKUST, creating shared spaces for dialogue, reflection, and collaborative problem-solving around teaching and learning. By providing formal recognition, structured opportunities for engagement, and institutional support, the AEE enables this community to flourish and to translate individual innovations into collective capacity-building.

 


Inaugural Intake of Academy of Education Excellence (AEE) Fellows

Following a rigorous assessment of all applications, the AEE has selected 21 faculty members who have demonstrated outstanding dedication to enhancing their teaching methods and advancing effective educational practices at HKUST. Through the AEE, they will also participate in scholarly activities aimed at fostering continuous professional growth for academics.

AEE Fellowships are awarded for a three-year term. Fellows will be invited to provide ongoing evidence of teaching excellence to maintain their titles, ensuring that a commitment to innovative pedagogy remains a core focus throughout their tenure.

AEE Workshop Series

Engaging Students: Leveraging on competition and collaboration

Engaging students can be quite challenging, especially in courses where class sizes are high. Prof. Jaisingh shared some techniques he has used in his classes to encourage engagement and participation in the classroom. The techniques leverage on competition and collaboration in the classroom. Students first engage in some form of healthy competition which sparks student interest in a topic, then reflect on the lessons from the competition, and then finally collaborate by sharing their self-discovery with others, which can lead to great synergies in learning.
