New Faculty Orientation Program

Each August and January, the Center for Education Innovation (CEI) hosts the New Faculty Orientation Program to support new faculty and teaching staff as they begin their teaching journey at HKUST. Through two compulsory sessions, participants gain an understanding of HKUST's educational vision, teaching expectations, and the support available through CEI. The program also explores the characteristics and diverse backgrounds of HKUST students, strategies for creating inclusive learning environments, practical insights from experienced HKUST faculty, and the essential digital tools that support teaching, including Canvas and CEI eTools. By the end of the program, participants will be well prepared to create engaging, inclusive, and effective learning experiences for their students.

University Teaching and Learning (UTL) Program

The University Teaching and Learning (UTL) Program is an essential initiative for all new assistant professors and lecturers engaged in teaching at the University. As part of the Academy of Education Excellence's micro-credentials, this program aims to equip early-career faculty with fundamental skills in university teaching and learning.

Focusing on critical areas such as learning theories, course design, assessment techniques, student engagement, and group work facilitation, the UTL Program ensures participants build a robust foundation. These skills are essential for delivering a high-quality learning experience to students, setting the stage for academic success and innovation in teaching practices.
