Description: |
This project aims to address the community building needs among Year 1 engineering students, in the context of the Common Core course HMAW1905B, “Behavioral Foundation of University Education: Habits, Mindsets and Wellness,” which enrolls nearly 1,000 students per year. The project entails the development and deployment of new software for an online social network tailor-made for Year 1 engineering students. Instead of the current practice of placing new engineering students in random groups, the platform will leverage the online socialization habits of this generation of students. The platform will feature an AI-enabled, friend suggestion algorithm and become a one-stop shop for students to access the HMAW course materials, deepen their learning through online discussions with other students, receive news and information from the School and the University, seek help from their peer mentors and E2I staff, and more intangibly, feel the pulse and vibrancy of the community through its visual interface. |
