Project Start Year: 2024/25
Description:

This project aims to transform data science education for engineering students by integrating Generative AI (GenAI)-designed game-based learning and gamification strategies into the course CENG/BIEN 3300: Data Science for Molecular Engineering. The initiative addresses low student engagement in traditional lecture-based formats by implementing biweekly GenAI-created activities—such as coding competitions, debates, and knowledge-based games—to promote active participation, collaboration, and deeper conceptual understanding.

The project objectives are to:
(1) enhance student motivation and engagement through interactive, competitive learning;
(2) improve coding proficiency and conceptual application;
(3) foster peer collaboration and reflective learning; and
(4) build a sustainable, scalable gamification framework supported by GenAI.

Deliverables include a series of gamified activities, a reward system, performance tracking metrics, and a comprehensive evaluation report. The project will be piloted across three semesters and is designed to offer a replicable model for technology-enhanced learning in STEM disciplines.
