Join-the-Conversation: Creating High-Impact Learning Experience through Internationalizing the Co-Curriculum

Prof. Tim Woo is Associate Professor of Engineering Education at the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering at HKUST. He has been very actively involved in teaching innovation for experiential learning courses. In particular, two of his courses are embedded with multi-disciplinary and multi-culture elements through Robot Design Contests and Community Service. Tim is also the founding director of Center for Global & Community Engagement (GCE) and the supervisor of HKUST Robotics team.

Dr. Janet Chan is Lecturer of School of Biological Sciences and the Programme Coordinator of MSc in Environmental Management at HKU. She is a Professional Member of the Hong Kong Institute of Qualified Environmental Professionals. She coordinates and teaches over seven Master’s courses and co-teaches one UG biostatistics course consisting >300 students. She supervises more than 10 students’ projects a year and mentors RPGs. Janet also actively incorporates international elements, interdisciplinarity, and community engagement into the curriculum through experiential learning and the constructivist approach.

Mr. Tony Chan is Assistant Director of Student Affairs and Head of Leadership Qualities Centre at HKBU. Upon taking up the position since 2015, he dedicates himself to empowering students to become committed “glocal” citizens with a caring heart through different co-curricular service-learning and community engagement programmes. He is also the Co-founder and Director of LxM, a registered charitable organization in Hong Kong, to promote the education and community development in Myanmar.
