The series come with four workshops to help facilitate learning and mange all your classes:

  • Canvas Basics - covers the key features of Canvas to get you started
  • Assessments & Grading - dives deep into set-up of assignments, discussions and quizzes to support diffrent teaching strategies
  • Turnitin Assignments - focuses on the set-up of assignments for Turnitin checking and unpacks how to interpret the report
  • Student Group Work - walks you through how to create a virtual space for students to collaborate and how to manage their group work
Canvas Basics

At the end of the workshop, you will be able to:

  • recall the key features of Canvas
  • describe the basic elements and interface of Canvas
  • design course and its layout
  • create and manage content
  • monitor students' learning progress

Canvas Extended -
Assessments & Grading

At the end of the workshop, you will be able to:

  • set up assignments, discussions and quizzes
  • set up quizzes to support different teaching strategies
  • set up assignment weighting
  • grade assignments using different tools and techniques
  • monitor students' responses on quizzes

Canvas Basics is a prerequisite.

Turnitin Assignments

At the end of the workshop, you will be able to:

  • set up assignments with originality check (Turnitin)
  • grade Turnitin assignments in SpeedGrader
  • read and interpret Turnitin originality reports

Canvas Basics is a prerequisite.

Student Group Work

 At the end of the workshop, you will be able to:

  • create and manage student groups
  • recall key features available for student collaboration
  • set up group assignments and discussions
  • grade group assignments
  • set up real-time collaborative sessions using Conferences

The workshops will be facilitated by CEI staff Rambo Lai and May Tse and conducted online via Zoom. After you register, you will receive a confirmation email with the link to the corresponding training session.

All new Graduate Teaching Assistants (Research Postgraduates) will be trained on Canvas. Existing GTAs who need to support faculty on Canvas may email taprog@ust.hk to register for the above workshops.

All course sites will be automatically created on Canvas after they have been confirmed and submitted to the ARR. Sign up here if you want your Canvas course site created earlier.
