Canvas

The new generation of LMS to support HKUST's Blended Learning and its future growth

In Jul 2014, the University acquired a new learning management system (LMS) – Canvas – to meet the University’s changing learning and teaching needs. This choice was based on considerable consultation with, and feedback from, faculty and instructors. This was followed by an extensive review of current LMS and bidding process from the main providers of such systems. We believe that we have found the best system to support HKUST’s future growth and blended learning initiative.

Starting Winter 2015/16, the old LMS (LMES) was made obsolete and Canvas is in its full swing. All course sites are automatically created on Canvas after the course information have been confirmed and submitted to the ARR. Sign up here if you want your Canvas course site created earlier.

Starting Spring 2015/16, all new Graduate Teaching Assistants (Research Postgraduates) are trained on Canvas. For instructors and existing Teaching Assistants, CEI offers regular workshops to prepare you for Canvas.

To prepare you for this semester, CEI will offer a series of theme-based Canvas workshops. All faculty members and teaching staff are welcome to join the workshops.

The workshops will be facilitated by CEI staff Rambo Lai and May Tse and conducted online via Zoom. After you register, you will receive a confirmation email with the link to the corresponding training session.

All new Graduate Teaching Assistants (Research Postgraduates) will be trained on Canvas. Existing GTAs who need to support faculty on Canvas may email taprog@ust.hk to register for the above workshops.

All course sites will be automatically created on Canvas after they have been confirmed and submitted to the ARR. Sign up here if you want your Canvas course site created earlier.

Email us at canvas@ust.hk or call #8036 if you have any enquiries on Canvas. We will be happy to assist you.
